Avon Park Middle School Families: Today, your child was given information to bring home to you regarding our upcoming Comprehensive Heath required instruction that will be presented to students on May 15, 16 and/or 17th here at school. Each school district in Florida is required by Florida Statute to provide instruction for students in grades 7 through 12 on teen dating violence and abuse. This component must include, but is not limited to, the definition of dating violence and abuse, the warning signs of dating violence and abusive behavior, the characteristics of healthy relationships, measures to prevent and stop dating violence and abuse, and community resources available to victims of dating violence and abuse. For students in grades 6 through 12, instruction will include the awareness of the benefits of sexual abstinence as the expected standard and the consequences of teenage pregnancy. This instruction will be presented by Choices Family Resource Centers. If you would like to opt your child out of this instruction, please complete and return the opt-out form that was sent home with your child today and will also be emailed out to you in Skyward. Students will need to turn in their completed opt-out form to their science teacher no later than Friday May 3, 2024 and this is only if you want to opt them out of this instruction. Thank you
